The successful candidate will plays a critical role in enhancing corrosion resistance, durability, and lifecycle performance of critical components while driving process innovation, digitization, and sustainability in coating operations
Job Description
- Own and optimize surface treatment and coating processes, including Type II/III anodizing, chromate conversion, E-coating, and primer/topcoat applications for aerospace and defense components.
- Establish and control critical process parameters, including bath chemistry, pH, conductivity, temperature, current density, curing conditions, and coating thickness.
- Develop and manage automated chemical dosing and mixing systems, ensuring stable bath conditions, process consistency, and efficient chemical consumption.
- Ensure compliance with MIL-STD, ASTM, ISO, and NADCAP requirements, implementing process controls, PFMEA, inspection methods, and coating qualification protocols.
- Lead process validation and testing, covering adhesion, hardness, DFT, corrosion resistance, salt spray, and environmental durability.
- Troubleshoot coating defects and process deviations, identifying root causes and implementing corrective and preventive actions.
- Drive continuous improvement to increase process capability, reduce defects, chemical consumption, waste, cycle time, and operating costs.
- Support the engineering and commissioning of automated surface treatment lines, including tanks, rectifiers, filtration, curing ovens, conveyors, robotics, and digital monitoring systems.
- Integrate automation for masking, part/rack handling, loading and unloading, working closely with robotics and controls teams.
- Define equipment maintenance and process reliability strategies to ensure stable and continuous production.
- Collaborate with engineering, materials, production, quality, and suppliers on coating selection, process development, capacity planning, bottleneck reduction, supplier qualification, and audits.
- Provide technical guidance and training to production and quality teams on coating processes, standards, and inspection practices.
Required qualifications
- Degree in Materials Science, Chemical, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- 12+ years of practical experience in surface finishing and industrial coating, ideally within aerospace, defense, or other high-reliability sectors.
- Extensive knowledge of anodizing, chromate conversion, E-coating, and wet paint systems, including primer and topcoat applications.
- Strong understanding of corrosion protection, surface preparation, coating adhesion, and material compatibility.
- Proficiency in process control, quality management, and root cause analysis, with a proven ability to troubleshoot and improve coating processes.
