About us
We are a Belgian engineering consulting firm that assists SMEs and large industrial organizations in bringing their innovation and R&D initiatives to life.
Job Description
Our client is a global leader in metal flow engineering, serving the steel and foundry industry. Within its Robotic Casting Technology team, the company designs robotic solutions installed in the continuous casting area of steel plants, right where the finished product exits the furnace.
Typical applications include robots retrieving single-use temperature sensors. Each robot is unique: it must be redesigned and adapted to the size and constraints of each site.
The role covers the full process, from customer requirements to a machine ready for installation:
Basic engineering:
Define the robot cell based on the technical specifications
Position equipment and validate the robot type, ensuring payload requirements are met
Quickly design basic equipment (robot tooling, storage racks) to validate a function or resolve a technical issue
Detailed engineering:
Build 3D models, manufacturing and assembly drawings, layout plans, and pneumatic cabinets
Coordinate these tasks and follow up on the mechanical team's planning
Collaboration and reporting:
Work closely with the Automation, Electrical, and Workshop teams to bring projects to completion
Report proactively to the team leader and project manager
Provide occasional support on the shop floor during assembly peaks
The company operates as an integrator: each solution is tailored to the specific constraints of the end client.
Required qualifications
Profile:
- 2 to 5 years of experience; a mid-level profile is preferred, though a motivated junior candidate could also be considered
- Required: experience in special-purpose machinery design, with a solid grasp of mechanical fundamentals
- A plus: experience in heavy industry, where equipment is deliberately oversized to withstand heat, dust, and corrosion
- Tools: SolidWorks 2024 with FEA module (or equivalent), DraftSight 2024, PDMPro, MS Office. Knowledge of KUKA.Sim is a plus but not required (trained internally)
- Soft skills: creativity, leadership and team management, autonomy, strong organizational skills, hands-on/practical approach, ability to see the bigger picture of a project
