Job Description
We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer (PHP / Symfony & AWS) for a project for our client from the EdTech industry. If you enjoy working with a modern serverless stack and want to be at the forefront of AI-empowered engineering, this role is a perfect match, apply and let's talk!
Responsibilities:
- Developing and maintaining backend services and APIs using PHP, Symfony, and API Platform
- Building and operating solutions on AWS (Lambda, DynamoDB, ElastiCache, AppSync, Amplify, API Gateway) with full ownership
- Diagnosing and resolving production issues using dashboards and CloudWatch logs and metrics
- Managing the data layer: designing schemas, analysing EXPLAIN plans, and optimising slow queries in RDS MySQL and serverless databases
- Delivering secure, high-performing REST and GraphQL APIs
- Contributing to AI Spec-Driven Development – writing specifications, directing AI coding agents, and validating AI-generated code
- Working in an Agile process and keeping Jira and Confluence up to date
- Supporting code reviews, testing culture, and engineering best practices
Required qualifications
- Proven experience with PHP, MySQL, Symfony, and API Platform in production applications
- Hands-on AWS experience, including serverless services (Lambda, DynamoDB, ElastiCache, AppSync, Amplify, API Gateway)
- Familiarity with AI Spec-Driven Development (SDD) and tools such as GitHub Spec Kit or Superpowers
- Ability to debug live production issues with the AWS console and CloudWatch
- Strong REST API design skills (ideally also GraphQL), including security and performance
- Solid knowledge of RDS MySQL and serverless databases (e.g. DynamoDB, Aurora Serverless), including EXPLAIN plans and query optimisation
- Experience with automated testing in PHP – phpspec and Behat
- Good knowledge of Jira and Confluence
