Job Description

We are looking for a System Engineer to join a multicultural, multidisciplinary, and international team within the railway industry, focusing on Automatic Train Operation (ATO) and advanced signalling systems (GoA2 to GoA4, CBTC, ETCS). You will be involved in the analysis, design, and specification of complex systems enabling train automation. The role covers the full system lifecycle—from need analysis and architecture to interface definition and specification development. 🔧 Key Responsibilities Analyze, clarify, and confirm internal and external requirements Design system architecture and model functional solutions (MBSE, SysML, etc.) Write and maintain system specifications with full traceability Identify and resolve functional and technical interfaces Assess design trade-offs and perform technical risk analysis Participate in design and document reviews with cross-functional teams Work closely with RAM, safety, cybersecurity, software, and validation teams Contribute to continuous improvement and reuse of design assets Support customer or user discussions when needed

Required qualifications

Education Master's degree (or equivalent) in Electronics, Telecom, Automation, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or similar fields Technical Skills Solid understanding of system modeling tools and methods (UML, SysML, Matlab, etc.) Knowledge of communication protocols (Ethernet, IP, etc.) Basic programming skills (Python, C/C++, etc.) Experience writing specifications and managing requirement traceability Familiarity with V-cycle, Agile development methodologies Bonus: knowledge of railway signalling systems (ETCS, CBTC) or safety-critical environments (rail, aerospace, automotive) Soft Skills Strong analytical mindset and attention to detail Team player with proactive communication skills Autonomous, resourceful, and committed Passion for system architecture and continuous learning International Context The role is primarily based in Charleroi (Belgium), with potential short missions or long-term assignments abroad depending on project needs.
